Cape Town is not short on options when it comes to food. The most difficult questions arise when you need to decide what you’re in the mood for and where to find it. Canal Walk is home to a variety of restaurants and a handful of to-go chains, which ensure that you’re satisfied. Whether you’re on your first date, with your family or simply catching up with friends, if you’re unsure of where to find your answers, then look no further. Here is a comprehensive list of the most popular foods and where to find them.

You had me at pizza

Pizza restaurants in Cape Town are by far the most sought after. And Canal Walk has multiple options to suit your needs. If you’ve decided on a family night out with the kids, Panarottis is the place for you. You are sure to have a quality meal that doesn’t break your budget, especially with the little ones. Their slogan, “Big on family, big on pizza”, shows that it’s an ideal location, which allows for children to play and enjoy themselves. And you don’t have to worry about disturbing other customers.

If you’re looking for a mature experience and you don’t mind a slightly more expensive menu, then Primi is the ultimate location. Primi is known for its rich-tasting pasta options and exceptional gourmet pizzas. If that still doesn’t tickle your fancy, Col'Cacchio has quickly emerged as a premium Italian restaurant in Cape Town that caters for the carb-clever as well as the indecisive. Col’Cacchio strives to produce meals with creativity, flair, and passion. And if you can’t decide on one pizza, this is the one place that lets you mix and match your options.

When I seafood, I eat it

If you’re looking for seafood restaurants in Cape Town, then look no further than John Dory's. As the old saying goes, “There are many fish in the sea”. However, we understand the growing desire to support restaurants that take interest in corporate responsibility. Their partnership with SASSI means that they only support sustainable fishing practices, and perhaps it’s an establishment you would prefer over other eateries. Otherwise, Ocean Basket is a classic household name that specialises in gorgeous seafood platters and exotic sushi options. They have maintained their reputation as one of the largest and most popular seafood chains in South Africa, both fantastic for families and budget friendly.

Additionally, the Cape Town Fish Market (CTFM) began its journey over 20 years ago and has become one of the most favoured Cape Town franchises, serving meals from your basic fish and chips to the finest sashimi in the city. And if you just don’t feel like fish (but you can’t argue with the spouse), CTFM also caters to meat-lovers and vegetarians.

That's just how we roll

Despite the multitude of sushi restaurants in Cape Town, Canal Walk is home to one very special sushi express. While the eateries previously mentioned also offer sushi options, Jakura is fairly sushi-focused. But they do offer other Asian meals and Dim Sum for those who still see sushi as an acquired taste.

Let's taco 'bout it

Unfortunately, you won’t find any Cape Town taco restaurants at Canal Walk, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eat Mexican if that’s what you’re after. For instance, La Rocca is a cafe and grill house suitable for those who would like to have a quick coffee to-go or even a sit-down meal. La Rocca does offer Mexican cuisines such as cheesy nachos and enchiladas, so if you have a healthy appetite for all things cheesy then be sure to make a turn there.

Canal Walk has also recently welcomed a gorgeous Mexican to-go bar if you’re in the mood for Mexican takeaways. Guacamole chose to open their very first food-franchise chain with us and we’re happy to expand our food options for those in search of nachos, tacos and more. They focus on all things fresh and spicy in order to create flavourful foods with ethically-sourced produce.

Cape Town Fish Market (CTFM) also offers delicious, deep-fried fish tacos on their menu. We can vouch for these fish tacos based on presentation, quality, and taste as being one of the best fish tacos in Cape Town. Although fish may not be your preferred taco ingredient, you simply can’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

Where the steaks for high

Perhaps you’re simply in the mood for a good steak. If so, Dros is a fantastic South African restaurant that covers an abundance of food types. Whether you’re in the mood for a pizza, a juicy burger, something fishy or even a sexy rump steak, then Dros has it all.

Likewise, Dros has amazing Portuguese food options that are worth mentioning. If you can’t seem to find a good Portuguese restaurant in Cape Town. Enjoy a simple steak roll or an espetada, but be sure to start with their spicy trinchado!

There are many steak restaurants in Cape Town as well, however, Dros has been around for over 20 years and has shown innovation within the food and service industry since 1996. So invite your friends and family to enjoy an inexpensive meal out where you’re bound to feel right at home.

So there you have it, a comprehensive list of restaurants within Canal Walk suited to every occasion and every desire. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the mood for Italian, sushi, or steak, Cape Town foodies have always been spoiled for choice.
