How to update your denim jacket
If there is one fashion item that's always in heavy rotation, it's your denim jacket. It may be time however for your old faithful to be rejuvenated, reworked, reinvented to give it a brand new lease on life, and to fashionably be there for you, like never before. (Besides, the embellished denim jacket is in the wardrobe of every celebrity and blogger worth their fashion salt, so best you up your denim jacket game right now!)
1. Patches and Pins
Denim jacket are been overtaken with patches, pins, and embellishments. Depending on the vibe you're going for: subtle or all-out, it's the easiest (no-sewing-required) look to achieve,
For a subtle statement, choose a few iron on patches. Tap into your nostalgia by picking ones from places you've visited or bands you loved growing up. To keep it cohesive, choose a colour scheme or a theme and be selective where you put each patch and which patches you pick. For a more all-out style, add tons of buttons and brooches to your jean jacket on top of the array of patches. Cover the entire back so there's practically no denim showing on the upper panel. Make sure it's covered as opposed to clustered so the design feels intentional.
2. Word!
Write, sew or glue on thread to your jacket to make a real statement. Pick your statement or word, and then use your fabric of choice to stitch it onto your denim jacket. Writing your name under your collar is also very on trend or use an embroidery stencil to make it look super pro!
3. Fabric Pockets
Glue or sew fabric onto one of the pockets (or both of them) to spice up your jacket. It's super easy and totally designer, especially if you pick a bold pattern.
4. Change to a vest
If you own a jacket that doesn't fit anymore, or you just don't want to wear it, cut off the sleeves to make an easy distressed vest. You can bleach it too if you want a total change (and the 80s is so in!)
Just slip off the sleeves (capped is cool too) and leave the thread to shred for a more distressed look. A pair of scissors and some cutting will leave you with a frayed and distressed look that totally changes up your boring jacket.
5. Glam it up
Adding a gold chain, embroidery or stick on jewels or studs to your denim jacket's collar or cuffs will instant upgrade your look from basic to brilliant. Play around with colour and patterns to match your style.
