It’s time to get serious about your winter wardrobe and it starts right here with the all-important winter coat. The classic trench is not going anywhere, and rightly so as it’s the perfect transitional cover up and great for this time of year.
Here’s how to update your favourite winter cover-up without breaking the bank.
1. Add accessories
Add an unexpected accessory like a chunky scarf or snood. This will help create balance with all that winter layering and it’s a great way to add interest or a pop of colour to your outfit. Besides, it’s much cheaper to buy a few scarves and change them up than to buy a few coats!
2. Feature focus
Keep your statement coat the focus and centre of attention by styling it up with a chic, all-black look. Don’t forget about your old faithful LBD or black mini… and because it’s winter, it means you can bring on out those black tights. They’re inexpensive, warm and they go with just about everything — plus, black tights also help to streamline an outfit and cut down on any winter bulk.
3. Winter layering
Add interest to your fave coat by mixing high and low layers by pairing a midi skirt to your longer coat with casual flats or sneakers.
4. Pair prints
Pretty up your winter coat by layering feminine silhouettes and prints underneath, like a floral dress with a slim fitting knits and turtleneck.
5. Go monochrome
Still have last season’s cream coat? Update it an instant by mixing varying hues of white and cream for a monochromatic look that wows. This is also the perfect opportunity to play with subtle white patterns or varying textures…. As this season is all about layering.
