6 BEAUTY HACKS MAKEUP ARTISTS RELY ON EVERYDAY

Banish tired looking skin and eyes and lose those ‘I can’t go out looking like this’ excuses, with these handy hacks.

1. Drink loads of H2O

Hydrating your body means younger, smoother, glowing looking skin. To make sure you stay hydrated, keep a refillable water bottle with you all day.
Find these, or similar, fun water bottles in store now to help hydrate with ease.
Shop them at Typo, MRP Home, Cotton On, Woolworths and Clicks.

2. Count on that concealer

Concealer is a multi-functional tool when used to its full advantage. A thick concealer that can be ‘spread out’ with a bit of moisturizer—or that can be added to an eye cream to conceal dark circles quickly without caking, is our favourite kind.

Insider tip: Add a swipe of concealer to areas where you would normally apply highlighter (your brow bone, down the bridge of your nose, chin and forehead) so your illuminator has extra staying power.

Our favourites include:

Clinique Even Better
Clinique’s super creamy concealer blends onto skin and disappears from view within seconds, taking imperfections with it.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit
This cream and powder duo is the perfect long-lasting cover-up. Apply the corrector to any imperfections or blemishes and then set with the powder for a flawless finish.

Clarins Instant Concealer
Our pick for under-eye dark circle camouflage, this stick concealer reflects light to minimise shadows. Blend well before applying your usual foundation or BB Cream.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
Loved by make-up artists, celebs and beauty buffs alike, YSL’s cult product is our absolute favourite for brightening eyes and adding radiance to your complexion. Use to conceal dark circles and apply to the sides of nose, mouth and chin to shape and contour.

3. Always be prepared with a lippie

Always keep a nude, red and a brightly-coloured lip stain in your desk or hand bag. In a pinch, you can add to your cheeks, blot on lips (for a barely there stain), or apply fully for a great nighttime option. Versatility is key!

4. Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliating regularly sloughs away hard-to-shed dead skin cells, which can prevent moisturizer and serum from fully penetrating your skin. Ask a dermatologist how often you should exfoliate based on your skin type

5. Use a setting spray

To ensure long-lasting makeup, always set your foundation. Urban Decay, exclusive to Foschini, does amazing setting sprays. Try the De-Slick Oil-Control option for those with oily skin and Chilli for those with dry or combo skin. And for those extra long nights, go for their All Nighter to prevent makeup meltdowns.

Insider tip: Mist setting spray onto your makeup sponge and gently tap onto the T-zone for a more concentrated application.

6. Quad tricks

You actually have lots of liner!

A quad gives you four different colour options that you can use as eyeliners! Just dip a liner brush in water and use the lightest colour to trace your lower waterline for the appearance of a full-night’s-sleep or experiment and use that bright blue hue or purple shade to line your lids for that perfect pop of colour!

And as for the highlighter options!  For a super simple way to make your eyes pop on one of those days, use the lightest colour in the palette to highlight your brow bone! If you have a shimmery palette, add a dab of colour to the inner corners of your eyes and right in the centre or your eyelid to give the appearance of big and bright eyes.

Some of our faves include:
1. Maybelline Diamond glow Eye Shadow Quads
2. Loreal Designer Eyeshadow Quad
3. Clarins 4 Eyeshadow
4. Rimmel GlamEyes
