Canal Walk loves Jimmy Nevis. This successful Cape Town born-and-bred young fashion icon is a pop singer/songwriter that makes amazing music. Multi-talented Jimmy recently turned 25 and is set to launch his third studio album Quarter Life Crisis, this November, on which he bravely bares his soul in an honest and unapologetic reflection that is also a celebration of his life so far. And, this young Capetonian has achieved so much worth celebrating.
Jimmy wrote his first hit single "Elephant Shoes" in 2012 and went on to produce his next hit single "Heartboxing" in the same year. Since then, Jimmy has been nominated for and won multiple awards for his music, style and fashion. He has opened for Pharrell Williams in Cape Town, been a co-coach on Season Two of The Voice South Africa, and won for Best Fashion Film at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival.
Jimmy is also the founder of the Blue-Collar Foundation, named after the first song he recorded for his second album, The Masses (his first album was Subliminal). The Blue Collar Foundation is a philanthropist initiative that hopes to inspire and create change among the youth of Cape Town. Its main focus is to assist in creating opportunities that encourage the youth to dream beyond the means of their social-economic backgrounds.
Jimmy is known to be among the country's best-dressed performers, and he is incredibly thoughtful about what he puts on, including only wearing SA designers when he is on stage or on the red carpet. After learning, designing and creating his own looks over the past two years, he launched his own fashion label titled York Yard with the goal to inspire South African audiences to understand the importance of supporting local talent and local industries.
York Yard is a sports-luxe fashion concept that collaborates with young South African designers. Every part of its process is proudly made in South Africa. Canal Walk was thrilled to join Jimmy on his fashion journey as home to the launch of York Yard in an incredible pop-up shop in the mall.
Yes, we're officially Jimmy Nevis fans. Obvs.
