Most fashion trends come and go, but denim is stayer, a keeper, a sure thing. But are you slaying in the latest looks? Here are the new styles you ought to zip into right now!
Let your denim take centre stage with these statement trends prepped and ready to refresh your look…
1. Embroidered denim
Embroidered statement denim like those seen on the Gucci Pre-Autumn 2016 runway has returned to haunt or thrill you depending on how you look at it. We are thrilled. All your favourite fashion stores will be full of this denim trend. Try Canal Walks Old Khaki, Cotton On, mrp.com, Foschini and Edgars for some floral denim fun.
2. Cropped flares
Okay so cropped flares do have the potential to look a tad awkward. They grind to a halt well above your ankle, which can feel like you accidentally cut them too short. Or you can look at it as an excellent opportunity to showcase your shoes or emphasize an hourglass figure.
Style note: pairing your cropped flares with boots is a great idea but make sure they cover any skin or socks.
3. Denim + Tulle
Layering has always been a winter thing but this styling trick is perfect for spring too. Layer a tulle skirt over a pair of jeans for an edgy, youthful look. Topshop thought it was such a great idea that they’re currently selling an already assembled tulle skirt and denim combo, else mrp.com has a darling sheer tulle skirt in pink and YDE, a bold glitter one in black, which you can throw over your favourite denims, and wear as a separate too.
4. Embellished hems
Fringe hems are very much part of this season’s fashion lexicon, especially in relation to denim, but now, other embellishments have been added, including boho-chic tassels and even luxe feathers. L.O.V.E
5. Oversized denim jackets
Swap out your run-of-the-mill denim jacket for an oversized straight cut version. The relaxed boyfriend fit will give you that effortless model-off-duty look à la Gigi Hadid. Slaaaaayyyage!
Lace-up denim is a great way to amp up an everyday ensemble. The corset-like addition that reveals just a sliver of skin has been a recent fave with the “it” girls. We approve.
7. Patch work
Patchwork denim was an overwhelming favourite last season and continues to be relevant this year. You can do this trend in a subtle manner or go all out with highly contrasting patches for those #OOTD Instagram posts.
